Deer & Elk Hunting Semi Guided Hunts
On our semi guided deer & elk hunts, the guide ratio is 4 - 6 hunters per 1 guide in the archery hunts & 8 - 10 hunters per 1 or 2 guides in the rifle deer & elk hunts. I (Leon) will be the guide for the archery & muzzleloading semi guided deer & elk hunts. Usually my brother Howard and I are the guides for the rifle semi guided deer & elk hunts. The hunters must furnish their own licenses, all the food and do their own cooking for themselves & their guides. Semi guided hunters must also furnish their own transportation during their hunt. ATV’s are allowed in our area and can be a big help in getting around. If you usually hunt with one back home I especially recommend that you bring it unless you prefer to do a lot of walking. Our job as guide for the camp will be to make sure everyone is hunting where we feel they have a good chance of finding or spotting deer and elk. We will usually go out with one or two hunters each day, especially if the elk are bugling. We do our best to help everyone in the camp hunt in areas where they will see deer & elk. If there is good snow we will also orginize drives, which often work very well. We try to help in any way we can to make sure the hunt goes as smooth as possible. Often if we are not needed in the field, we will do our part in the kitchen. My brother, Howard, & I both are good cooks. We are just not fond of doing dishes. The hunters on our semi guided deer & elk hunts must be prepared to field dress their own game and mark a trail from it to a trail or road. We will quarter, skin, cape & pack your deer and / or elk into camp for you. The meat processing, cooler & taxidermy fees are the responsibility of each individual hunter. We have a shower in the lodge where it’s warm & the water is as hot as you want it. As anyone who has been on a hunt without one knows, a hot shower is something most hunters really appreciate. We have a (click here) list of our rifle elk hunting references & archery elk hunting references with some recent pictures from our hunts. We can also send a brochure or reference list by e-mail request. Please leave your name & your complete address. We hunt mule deer & elk under a special use permit on BLM & the Uncompahgre National Forest.
